Vice Minister Qu Dongyu co-chaired the 26th China-US Agricultural Working Group Meeting with Under Secretary Michael T. Scuse from USDA and Ambassador Darci Vetter, Chief Agricultural Negotiator, USTR, in Beijing on Nov. 12, 2015. The two sides discussed issues of common interests.
Vice Minister Qu indicated that both China and the US are major agricultural countries, and command substantial influence in global agricultural affairs. In recent years, with joint efforts of both sides, China and US agricultural cooperation has yielded fruitful outcomes, with constantly improved mechanisms and smooth communication. The bilateral cooperation has contributed to boosting mutual understanding and expanding consensus. He noted that the two sides should seek common ground while effectively controlling disagreements, and convert common problems and challenges into opportunities for intensifying cooperation, giving full play to each other's strength in agriculture and enhancing bilateral agricultural cooperation. The Chinese side is willing to work with the US side to continuously expand the bilateral economic and trade cooperation in agriculture, under the principle of mutual respect and common progress, contributing to the construction of new type of major power relations.
Under Secretary Scuse responded that the US side values the cooperation and exchanges with China in agricultural policy, trade and investment, and is looking forward to jointly promoting the bilateral agricultural cooperation. Ambassador Vetter expressed the hope to boost the mutual understanding and cooperation between China and US in food security, food safety, agricultural trade, among others, through strengthened dialogue and communication.
